How can I fix my Dell laptop charger?

I think it's effed due to me leaving it plugged into the wall unattached to a laptop. The transformer or inverter or little box thing typically will get very hot at this point and I guess it fried it. At any rate the indicating led won't turn on anymore and it won't charge my comp. The cable appears to be fine there's something wrong with the box I believe!! Anyone know what I can do, I'm moderately skilled at fixing electronics and am a good solderer. Failing that are there any typical local stores that would carry a replacement? eg. Future shop best buy etc.
