Why cant i catch fish?

i live in northern alabama and i fish a good bit i fish from the bank of a river i use natural color crankbaits and bright spinnerbaits i toss them out over and over and cant get anything i still love the hobby though i like to catch any fish but want to catch my first bass what bait to use can you help any information thanks
